Approvals

All research involving human participants or use of their information or samples requires Ethics Approval. For more information, see Ethics Approval Resources.

In addition to Ethics Approval, all research requiring access to AHS areas or facilities, data or IT systems, patients or staff, requires Operational Approval and Administrative Approval. AHS Operational Approval requests are submitted on behalf of the researcher by either the HSA team or the Northern Alberta Clinical Trials Research Centre (NACTRC). NACTRC provides research administration and Operational Approval for AHS studies restricted to the Edmonton zone. To learn more, see Obtaining Operational Approval.

Once Operational Approval is received for each individual resource requested, these combine, along with Ethics Approval, to create the overall Administrative Approval needed to launch the research study. This Administrative Approval is granted by NACTRC or the HSA team, as applicable.
